Description:
The Speaker Chair project was born from a collaboration between a Kyiv-based studio and a Ukrainian-born designer from Tel Aviv. Developed through conditions of distance, budgets and logistical constraints, the project explores how restriction itself can become a creative tool.
Rooted in a neo-brutalist design language, the object reinterprets simple and accessible construction materials as carriers of strong aesthetic value. Yellow birch plywood, a material typically associated with temporary construction and utilitarian use, was intentionally chosen for its lack of conventional beauty. Through recontextualization, it transforms from a raw building material into a sculptural design object.
By merging two distinct typologies: a speaker and a chair, the project blurs the boundaries between furniture, sound object and spatial sculpture. Rather than prioritizing a single function, the object operates as a hybrid presence where visual identity, atmosphere and physical interaction coexist. The result is an object that functions both as a usable design piece and as a spatial statement, proposing a new design language shaped through contrast, cultural references and material expression.
More than a product, the project reflects a shared cultural vision and demonstrates how design and aesthetics can operate as a global language capable of connecting people, ideas and creative processes across distance and different realities.
